Joe Jolson was appointed to serve as Harvest Capital Credit's Chief Executive Officer effective on March 28, 2018. Mr. Jolson co-founded JMP Group and is its Chief Executive Officer, the Chairman of its board of directors and a member of its executive committee. Additionally, he is Chief Executive Officer of asset management subsidiaries Harvest Capital Strategies and JMP Asset Management. He serves as Chief Investment Officer of JMP Capital I and, from 1999 until 2015, served as portfolio manager of hedge fund strategy Harvest Opportunity Partners II.
Joe was previously a Senior Managing Director and senior equity research analyst at Montgomery Securities, now Banc of America Securities. In 1984, he established Montgomery Securities’ non-bank financial services research group, covering California and regional thrifts, government-sponsored enterprises, specialty lenders and mortgage finance companies over the next 15 years. In 1989, he initiated the firm’s real estate practice; and, in 1994, he launched its auto services effort. Joe was a consulting research analyst at Fidelity Management and Research in 1983 and 1984 and at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette from 1980 through 1982, following the financial services industry as well as selected emerging growth companies in both instances.
Joe was named to Institutional Investor magazine’s All-America Research Team for ten consecutive years, between 1986 and 1995, for his coverage of the savings and loan industry and was also selected as an All-Star Analyst in the financial services category by The Wall Street Journal in 1996 and 1997. Additionally, he was ranked as a top-five thrift analyst by Greenwich Associates every year from 1985 through 1994.
Joe received an MBA with distinction from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA degree from Yale University.
Richard P. Buckanavage
Managing Director - Head of Business Development
Rich Buckanavage is Managing Director - Head of Business Development of Harvest Capital Credit and President of HCAP Advisors, LLC and a member of its investment committee. HCAP Advisors, LLC is the external investment advisor to Harvest Capital Credit.
Rich was previously co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Patriot Capital Funding, Inc., a publicly traded BDC focused on the lower middle market that closed 51 platform investments consisting of senior and junior secured loans, mezzanine debt and minority equity capital totaling approximately $525 million. Prior to founding Patriot Capital Funding, he held several positions with GE Capital Corporation between 1999 and 2003, most recently as a Managing Director and head of debt capital markets with responsibility for all U.S. debt syndication and private placement activities for GE’s middle-market global sponsor finance and commercial finance business units.
From 1995 to 1999, Rich was a Senior Vice President and midwest region manager for Creditanstalt Corporate Finance, Inc. (“CCFI”). During that time, he was also a senior investment officer at Creditanstalt Small Business Investment Corporation (“CSBIC”), CCFI’s private equity unit that originated and managed a portfolio of non-controlling equity investments. Together, CCFI and CSBIC acted as a “one-stop” capital provider focused on making investments in middle-market companies in conjunction with private equity sponsors. In his capacities at CCFI and CSBIC, Rich managed a portfolio of senior secured loans, subordinated debt and equity investments valued at more than $1.2 billion. While at CSBIC, Rich was also a member of the board of directors of several of CSBIC’s portfolio companies.
Rich’s professional experience also includes various business development and portfolio management roles in the leveraged finance groups at Bank of America as well as Fleet Bank and its predecessors. He holds an MBA from Syracuse University and a BS from Central Connecticut University.
James J. Fowler
Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Fowler was appointed by the Board of Directors on March 28, 2018 to serve as our Chief Investment Officer. He also serves and has been a Managing Director of JMP Group, a full-service investment banking and asset management firm, since February, 2001. Commencing April 2016 to present, he is serving as the Portfolio Manager of JMP Capital I LLC, which is a credit fund providing debt capital to lower middle market companies. Prior to this role, from 2010 to 2016, Mr. Fowler was a Co-Portfolio Manager of Harvest Opportunities Partners II, which was a market-neutral equity hedge fund dedicated to investing in small and mid-sized financial services companies. Mr. Fowler joined JMP’s asset management platform in February 2007, and from February 2008 until December 2012, he was the non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of New York Mortgage Trust (NASD: NYMT), which is a New York-based mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT) that was recapitalized in February 2008 by entities owned by JMP Group's broker/dealer (JMP Securities) where he covered a wide range of mortgage and specialty finance companies. During this period, from 2005-2007, he also served as Co-Director of Equity research. Mr. Fowler holds a B.S. degree in Finance from Golden Gate University.
Seth Tutlis is a director at HCAP Advisors, LLC. His responsibilities include deal origination, underwriting, structuring, and portfolio management.
Prior to joining HCAP Advisors, LLC Seth was an investment professional and a member of the investment committee at Prospect Capital, a middle-market private credit and equity investment firm. While at Prospect, Seth originated and led the execution of over $150 million of investments and served as a director of several portfolio companies. From 2006 to 2009, he was an investment professional at Patriot Capital Funding, a publicly-traded business development company focused on credit and equity investments in lower middle-market businesses. From 1998 to 2006, Seth worked at various asset management and equity research organizations including AllianceBernstein Institutional Investments (and its predecessor Sanford C. Bernstein), Soundview Capital Management, and Sidoti & Company, where he covered a variety of sectors including aerospace & defense, and engineering & construction.
Seth holds a MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BS from Sacred Heart University. He also completed the CFA program in 2002.
Katelyn M. Pembroke
Katelyn Pembroke is a vice president at HCAP Advisors, LLC. Her responsibilities include sourcing, underwriting, transaction execution, and portfolio monitoring.
Prior to joining HCAP Advisors, LLC in 2013, Katelyn worked at Hancock Capital Management, where she was responsible for the underwriting, analysis and portfolio management of mezzanine and equity investments.
Katelyn received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University in 2009.
Sal Jeraci is a vice president at HCAP Advisors, LLC. His responsibilities include sourcing, underwriting, transaction execution and portfolio monitoring.
Prior to joining HCAP Advisors, LLC in 2014, Sal was an associate with RBS Citizens’ U.S. based middle market leveraged finance group where he was responsible for executing, structuring, and syndicating event driven financings for sponsored and non-sponsored businesses. From 2008 to 2012, Sal held analyst and associate positions at CIT Group, Amalgamated Capital, and Scotia Capital.
Sal received an MBA from Fordham University and has a BS from Siena College.
Justin Kundrat is a senior associate at HCAP Advisors, LLC. His responsibilities include sourcing, underwriting, transaction execution and portfolio monitoring.
Prior to joining HCAP Advisors, LLC in 2017, Justin was an investment banking analyst at Guggenheim Partners, where he was responsible for executing M&A transactions and financings in the consumer & retail sector. From 2013 to 2015, Justin was an associate within PwC’s Transaction Services group.
Justin received a BS in Accountancy from Villanova University. He also holds a CPA license.
